- What is this year’s Christmas Production all about? How different is it from the previous years and what can we expect to see?
This year’s “ACTSmas” is loosely based on the story of Joseph, the dreamer (Genesis 37-47). One of the major difference is the setting. “The Guy Who Sang the Better Song” was presented in a contemporary setting and “Roadworks Village” was set in an olden fantasy storybook world. This new production is set in the distant future; with elements of the distant past. We’re calling it “techno-retro.” Another thing we’re trying out for the first time is synergizing with the following bands: Army of Three, Oneted and Four Letter Story. Expect to hear powerful original songs by them in the production. I won’t give out too much now, wouldn’t want to spoil the experience of watching it first hand! Just know that it’s gonna be fresh, exciting and relevant, as always. - What is the vision and mission behind the Christmas Production? What drives you to produce an event of such a scale i.e. your source of inspiration etc?
In a nutshell, the vision of the play, (and the vision of Lightbulb) is “To make the love of Christ famous through Creative Arts” We’re always looking towards fresh, exciting and creative ways to synergize various forms of creative expression to make a lasting impact and deliver a message that’s relevant and life-transforming. I never really know where my inspiration will come from next, but God’s really creative in showing me bits and pieces as I go along. He is after all, the Chief Creator. Most times it’s through my own personal life experiences. I’m just really honored that He would use us to channel His message for the season and for all seasons. It’s amazing to see how everything just falls in place. It’s quite a ride.
- How has the response been thus far with regards to the recruitment of the cast and crew? Who qualifies to be in the team?
It’s been amazing! People have been really supportive, not just in words, but more importantly; in action. The whole atmosphere of faith really does elevate the process to a whole new level. I can’t see this happening with a different group of people. The talents in ACTS; they’re ready in and out of season! Who qualifies? If you’re a regular, and your heart’s in it; you’re in! Your role in the team however, depends on your previous portfolio. We try our best not to say no to anyone. I say, if the shoe fits, run with it! - What do you hope to achieve from this year’s Christmas Production? We all go through different seasons in our lives. The ups, the downs and the all arounds. Joseph had his share of challenges and so many reasons to give up hope. But he didn’t. I hope, through this play, viewers will relate to the life of Joseph and draw strength from his story. But most of all to look at their own lives; and realize God has a powerful plan for all of us, we need to make the right choices to get to His perfect will for us. The saying goes; “God decides what you go through, you decide how you go through it.”
